Kindergarten Changes
Change to Entry Age for Kindergarten

New age entry date cut-off Sept. 1st; waivers available

Recent state legislation has changed the entry age for students enrolling in kindergarten.  The entry age for kindergarten has been gradually changed over the last three years to require children to be 5 years old by September 1st rather than the old cut-off date of December 1st.

For the 2017-18 School Year, the entry date cut-off date for a child entering kindergarten is September 1st, 2017.  A child who resides in the Livonia Public Schools attendance area may be enrolled in kindergarten if he/she is at least 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2017.

Parents of a child with a birthdate Sept. 1 through Nov. 30 may request a waiver for enrollment.  Please request the waiver form upon registration at your child's school.
