February Newsletter Tuesday/Thursday

Dear Families,                                                                          2018

Happy February!  We sure enjoyed all of our winter activities last month!  We hope the weather cooperates this month so we are able to go outside (when the wind-chill is above 20 degrees).  Thanks for sending labeled outdoor clothing (snow pants, boots, hats and mittens) in a labeled bag with your child each day.  Also, please change into tennis shoes at school.

It’s a busy month and we will start with some Valentine’s Day themed activities, including everyone making a special box to hold valentines.

Our school-wide virtue this month is “Empathy/Friendship”.  Check out the conversation questions and the bulletin board in the main hall.

On Thursday, February 8 we will be enjoying a PTA sponsored event called “Mr. Nelson’s Wildlife Safari”.  In this fun presentation, Mr. Nelson brings several wild animals to school for the children to observe, touch and learn about.  Thank you PTA! Their meeting this month is Thursday, February 8th. All are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Our Valentine’s party is on Tuesday, February 13th.   The children may bring in valentines to the party for their friends at school (there are 20 children in our class).  Please sign their name on the card but do not put a name on the envelope (it makes it easier for them to distribute).  Please make sure that the valentines do not include a food item (these will have to be returned if sent in).  Put the valentines in a bag with their name on it.  If you would like to help in the classroom that day look for the volunteer sign up in the hall and fill out an I-Chat form online.  We will be singing some special songs for your entertainment just before dismissal.

Jackson Early Childhood Center is closed February 17-19 as this is mid-winter break for Livonia Public Schools.  Enjoy your break!

On Thursday, February 22nd we will be celebrating “Summer Day” with the other 3 year old classes.  Your child is encouraged to dress in summer type clothes as we have fun taking a break from winter and pretending it is hot! We will not go outside on this day but will have some summer fun in the gym and in our room.  Please, tennis shoes only, no flip flops.

There is a staff Professional Development day scheduled on Wednesday, February 28th so there are no classes scheduled that day.

Looking ahead, conferences will be held March 5 – March 8.  Watch for the sign up sheets in the hall.  Conferences are held in the classroom during our normal class time so there will be no classes during this time.  We will be having additional conference times at night on Tuesday, March 6th  from 7-8 pm.

As always, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.  I am always available after class if you need an extended time to discuss any concerns.  You can also send me an email at ptcurmi@gmail.com.

Have a happy month!
